Basic NPC housing in Terraria

If you are reading this guide it means you want to know how to build a series of 10x6 apartments in Terraria. Though, you might regret this decision because monsters can storm directly through it and slaughtered the NPCs each time there was an event for something. Keep that in mind when you are trying to use this guide or designing your own housing scheme.

Building Checklist

  • Housing needs the following, in additional to being of adequate size:

  • Structural ceiling and walls - wood, stone, dirt or almost any other block that is not corrupt

  • An entrance – normally a door, but might be a trap door or platform set in the ceiling or floor.

  • Background walls which are player-made, that prevents monsters from inside spawning

  • Something flat – usually a table, piano, or even a work bench

  • A light source of any kind

  • A chair

At the minimum, you require wood, dirt, and gel. You can also make awhole house out of thedirt but grass would grow. Wood is also essential as you need a workbench to make background chairs and walls.

Size Requirement

An NPC requires thirty blocks' worth of space to be properly built. When we include the floor, walls, and ceiling, such become sixty but might differ depending on its dimensions. It is worth considering floor as you can build a house in midair in Terraria and any type of NPC will live therehappily. In fact, it is one way to keep enemies or monsters from getting inside. You only have to put it above their jump height.

Houses could not be shorter than five blocks tall, else NPCs (and player character) could not fit inside of them. One such size requires being twelve blocks wide to count as legal housing. For a house that’s wide as opposed to the tall, 12x5 will work ideally. This provides exactly thirty spaces of room to live inside, as we take the ceiling and walls off and get ten wide by three tall – accurate height of the character in Terraria as mentioned in a guide at http://terrariaforpc.com/. Lots of individual prefer shorter buildings like, as they are easier to jump over. However, you can have taller buildings later in the game if you wish to have them.
